Shuri Castle in Naha, Okinawa was the royal castle of the Ryukyu Kingdom and is part of a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
History
The castle was the political and cultural center of the Ryukyu Kingdom and was developed as a royal castle from the 15th century onward. Buildings were lost in the destruction of the Second World War and in the fire of 2019, and reconstruction is under way.
