Japan Castle Guide is a visual guide to Japan's 100 Famous Castles and the next 100. It helps you see which castles are near your home or destination, and what happened there, through maps, photos and short readings.

An unofficial site

The "100 Famous Castles of Japan" and the following "next 100" are selections of the Japan Castle Foundation. This site is an independent, unofficial project run by an individual, and is not affiliated with the Foundation. Castle numbers and names follow the Foundation's official lists.

About the content

• Texts are our own summaries based on several public sources. Sources are listed at the bottom of each castle page.
• We check dates, names and cultural-property designations as carefully as we can, but errors may remain. We do not guarantee academic accuracy.
• Opening hours, closing days and admission fees change. Please always check each castle's official website before your visit.
• Coordinates and distances are approximate. Please also check a map app when travelling.
