Nagoya Castle in Aichi Prefecture was the seat of the Owari Tokugawa family and is famous for the golden shachi (mythical dolphin-like fish) on its roof.
History
Tokugawa Ieyasu ordered construction in the early 17th century, with the help of daimyo from western Japan. It served as the seat of the Owari domain until the end of the shogunate. The keep and Honmaru Palace were destroyed in air raids in the Showa era; the keep was rebuilt after the war, and the Honmaru Palace has recently been reconstructed.
